Aft...Hi Flo, sorry not to see your comment earlier! After the course was up, I didn't need the eye drops again, although occasionally (say, once a week), they do feel dry on waking up, but yawning to get tears in my eyes seems to sort it out.

No idea about food - it makes sense that it could help with healing, but I was too lazy to think about it!

Yes, my eyes recovered at the same time and had pretty much equal vision. Three and a half years on, I've just had an eye-test and I've become a bit short-sighted again (like, -0.5) but they're still even.

In terms of visual clarity, I did feel frustrated that my eyesight sometimes didn't seem as good as it did with glasses, but I think it's to do with managing expectations.

In the end, I'd rather stand a bit closer to a screen to watch a presentation, or hold my mirror further away when plucking my eyebrows than wear glasses.

Best of luck with your healing and life post-specs - I hope everything works out beautifully for you.

And thanks about my book too! :)meemaleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17252248464524701128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5488444600218615887.post-78133672741255157732015-08-27T12:33:35.732+01:002015-08-27T12:33:35.732+01:00Hi Mimi,
Loved your Totoro post.
I just wanted to...Hi Mimi,

Loved your Totoro post.
I just wanted to know how your eyes are doing now?
i hope it's okay for me to ask you some qs (I know you are busy!):
You mentioned that your eyes aren't too dry now, did you carry on using those lubristil drops or a different brand after the 4 week regime of anti-inflammatory drops was over? Did you find that some foods helped with your healing process? I am taking one very pongy omega 3 fish oil tablet everyday for the dryness. I love advocadoes so was happy to find out that they are great for the eyes (and hair!).
Also did both your eyes recover at the same time/have the same vision overall?
I am at the early stages so far and found the procedure tough and am finding the healing process very slow. I think some people such as yourself do recover quickly (i.e. 20-20 vision, no side effects after a week) and others recover at slower rates with side effects - it can take up to 3-6 months for some people and clinics ranging from high st ones to top end hospital private clinics should make that clear from the outset. Glasses and contact lenses do a pretty good job and actually, despite moaning about my specs for so many years, I actually miss the visual clarity that I have not managed to find post op.

Thanks for any thoughts on this:)
Flo
ps. Great noodle! book!
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5488444600218615887.post-5959961252949550072014-08-21T11:37:21.715+01:002014-08-21T11:37:21.715+01:00I'm so pleased I could help! I am also a fan of fried crickets - I ate them for the first time in Mai Chau, Vietnam. Sort of reminded me of barbecue flavoured crisps. Really addictive, surprisingly. The dry eye has stopped and I have no blurriness or halos. I don't drive so I'm not sure how good my night vision is in that respect, but I have a baby now and I can see her in the dark pretty well :)

My surgeon was Prof David Gartry - I actually chose him because he did India Knight's eyes and it was her account of the procedure which actually convinced me in the end.

Good luck if you decide to go ahead - I have no regrets myself and still think it's one of the best decisions I ever made. And thank you - I hope you get to visit Burma one day! xmeemaleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17252248464524701128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5488444600218615887.post-70576592249131259192013-10-30T11:37:56.528+00:002013-10-30T11:37:56.528+00:00Hello Mimi,
Thanks for your detailed and interest...Hello Mimi,

Thanks for your detailed and interesting account of your operation. I just wanted to ask you whether you have had any side effects/complications following the operation such as blurry vision, halos, poor night vision etc. I know you mentioned occasional dry eyes. I would be worried that I would have permanent dry eyes, as some post laser patients had this problem. Would it be too nosy of me to ask for the name of your surgeon? My friend has just had lasek at Moorfields and similarly to yours, her operation and post op were a success, however I am trying to gather lots (maybe too much) info before making the big decision.
Thanks again for your time! By the way, I love your blog. I stumbled across it whilst googling lasek + Moorfields but I have been obsessed with Burma for some time and desperately want to visit your beautiful country before the hordes of tourists start flocking in. The food looks delicious and the landscape breathtaking.
Liz Roobarbe et Mootardehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10913365572828152755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5488444600218615887.post-61236924063724149022013-07-16T18:13:25.723+01:002013-07-16T18:13:25.723+01:00Hi Ashley! The pain was bad, but completely worth it - a few months later I was very ill in hospital (unrelated illness) and the fact that I could see 100% of the time even though feverish meant a whole lot to me.

Then earlier this year I had a baby - and I love the fact that I never have to worry about breaking or losing my glasses and being unable to look after her in an emergency.

Obviously I'm me and you're you, so it's your decision, but I do think it's one of the best decisions I ever made.meemaleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17252248464524701128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5488444600218615887.post-24233061730876558322013-07-16T14:59:16.323+01:002013-07-16T14:59:16.323+01:00Hi Jo! I am someone that is terrified of pain. So part of me wonders if maybe I should just not get it and deal with glasses and or contacts for the rest of my life. but then I fight with myself and think how nice it would be to never have to worry about classes or contacts again. Though I didn't start wearing glasses until I was around 11, I can't function at all without them. Have never managed contacts either though- optician chap literally had to hold me down while assistant person put them in the first time.
